By Fax To Alice Springs

By Fax To Alice Springs was Simon Mundy’s second book of poems, including work from 1987 to 1995. As the title implies, the poems were written all over the world – North Carolina to Italy, Moravia to Australia – as well as in Mundy’s home territory on the borders of Wales.

They reflect his intense sense of the spirit of place as well as his wry approach to politics and bittersweet relationship with women.

‘Mundy can be cheeky, he can be rueful but he is always passionate.’  Daljit Nagra

A number of the poems included first appeared in New Democrat. 'Art in the 1900's' was commissioned by The Association of Business Sponsorship (ABSA) to appear in its annual report. ' For Havel, Spring 1989' was commissioned by that year's Brighton Festival. 'By Fax To Alice Springs' was written for the Queensland Poetry Society, Brisbane. 'Symphonic Poem' was commissioned by the Hay on Wye Literary Festival and 'Your Faults, Wales or Sarajevo' was written as part of the Hay Festival's Poetry Squantum in 1995, where the given subject was Sarajevo.
